The Niger Delta Development Commission, Akwa Ibom State Government and Exxon Mobil have agreed to join forces to fast track the completion of Eket-Ibeno Road Project being undertaking by the NDDC.
Consequently, three months ultimatum has been issued the Contractor handling the project to show competence or face sanction.
Managing Director, of the NDDC, Dr. Christian Oboh announced this at Eket during a press briefing after a meeting between the Commission, Akwa Ibom State Government, Exxon Mobil and FCC Nigeria Limited handling the project.
According to Dr. Oboh, the NDDC would ensure prompt release of funds to the Contractor while the Akwa Ibom State Government will nominate new Consultant to provide a buffer in case the type of consultancy services needed are not met.
“There is a new wave of agreement, we are going to assess the situation with the Contractor in a matter of days, and I will like to use this opportunity to invite the Contractor to meet with us because time is of essence. God willing, we are going to deliver” Oboh assured.
“Partnership is the new road map that the Commission has adopted in project implementation across the states of the Niger Delta”. Dr. Oboh stated. He explained that the Commission, Akwa Ibom State Government and Exxon Mobil were not pleased with the slow pace of work on the project but as he puts it “we are prepared to move forward”.
Also speaking, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio said from the interaction with, the NDDC Managing Director, and Exxon Mobil, there is hope for the Niger Delta region, “the Managing Director of NDDC has shown focus, passion, commitment, and for me this is a turning point”
The Governor described the Ibeno-Eket road as very strategic to the Nation’s economy, being the operational base of Exxon Mobil.
