In continuation of its development drive in the Niger Delta Region and in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda, the Niger Delta Development Commission has unveiled seven new projects in Abia State.
They are Umuahala road, Umuwaga internal roads, solar powered water project at Obuzor, Egbelu Okomiri ring road, Obehie electrification project at Umuahala all in Ukwa West Local Government Area and solar powered street light at Azumiri, Ohambele, Obeaku and Akwete communities in Ukwa East Local Government Area.
Commissioning the projects, the Acting Managing Director, Dr. Christy Atako restated the Commission’s commitment towards intervening in the needs of the people of the region.
Dr. Atako expressed the hope that the projects will impact positively on the lives of the people, pointing out that the road will assist in the transportation of their farm produce to major markets while the solar powered lights will illuminate the areas, thereby increasing economic activities of the communities. She urged the people to assume ownership of the projects by guarding against their vandalization.
“Let me encourage you to take over these projects commissioned in your communities, because from this day they cease to be NDDC projects, they are yours, please use them optimally".
The Umuahala road is 2km with 6metres width of carriage way that links the community to adjoining communities as well as assist them in transporting their farm produce to major markets such as Ogwe Market.
The Umuwaga internal roads consist of 1km road with 6metres width as well as 1km length of reinforced concrete drain while the solar powered water project at Obuzor consists of 250mm diameter borehole, 20,000 gallons tank with 2.5km reticulation.
